NEW PARALYMPIC SONG ‘CHAMPION’ CELEBRATES RESILIENCY AND DETERMINATION

You don’t have to win a gold medal to be a champion. That’s the message musician Paul DeRosa is sharing through his new song ‘Champion’.

Featured during Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games coverage in Canada, DeRosa wrote the song following Tokyo 2020. His song ‘Shine’ was the theme song of the Canadian Paralympic Team for that Games.

The Paralympics have always been a great inspiration to me. It was a great honour to have contributed two of my songs as the first official theme song for the Paralympic Team.

CANADIAN PARALYMPIANS SET TO ‘SHINE’ IN TOKYO WITH SPECIAL THEME SONG

The official theme song of the Tokyo 2020 Canadian Paralympic Team, ‘Shine’ was written by Paul DeRosa and is performed by Canadian singer Eva Avila. It was used to showcase the Canadian squad throughout the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games across broadcast and digital coverage.

“The first version of ‘Shine’ was an acoustic version written about 18 years ago. Many years later, it was a song that was always in development. I knew one day it would be used for something special.”

Paul DeRosa goes for the gold with his Canadian Paralympic themes Champion and Toucher Les Étoiles — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Both theme songs were played extensively during the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games, climaxing a two-year creative journey for the lifelong Toronto musician. “I was fortunate to meet with several of Canada’s top paralympians and these engagements had a profound positive impact on me,” says DeRosa. “It gave me the strength and courage to move forward despite having our world turned upside down due to the pandemic.”

NO SHORTAGE OF PARALYMPIC INSPIRATION FOR DEROSA

For Canadian singer-songwriter Paul DeRosa, there’s no shortage of inspiration when it comes to writing songs for Canada’s Paralympic athletes

In 2019, DeRosa paired up with the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the CBC to record “Shine”, an emotionally driven song set to become the soundtrack for the Paralympic Games broadcast set for the summer of 2020. With the Games postponed to 2021 due to the Global pandemic, “Shine” and the athletes themselves are eagerly waiting for next summer to inspire the world once again

As many would agree, the world needs a bit of hope right now. This has been the driver for DeRosa to continue to put his creative artistry to work. With all the setbacks that many have had to face in 2020, including our Canadian Paralympic athletes, DeRosa wanted to shed some optimism and is now in the process of recording a new track for the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games set to take place in Beijing, China, 6 months after the Summer Games in Tokyo.
