In conversation with Mississauga’s Paul DeRosa, winner of the 2020 Mississauga Music Award for Songwriter of The Year.

Describe what you do musically
I am a guitar player / songwriter

What inspired you to start creating music?
I remember watching my two older brothers that played in bands when I was a kid and I just followed suit. 
Music has always been a part of my life. I started writing and performing when I was very young. Most of my song ideas come from life experiences but I always get inspired to write about other people’s life stories as well.

What does winning the Mississauga Music award for Songwriter Of The Year mean to you?
Being nominated and winning with all the other amazing artist, was a great feeling. Considering, Mississauga is where I live with my wife and family, it makes it that much more special.

What's been your biggest musical obstacle and how did you overcome it?
I believe every musician/songwriter goes through the same issues at times. There comes a moment in your life where you run into a brick wall. The trick is to just keep persevering through and great opportunities will come your way.

What advice do you have for up and coming musicians/artists?
The best advice I have for someone starting out is to always put your heart and soul into your music, never give up!  Keep knocking on doors, get out there, and get yourself seen.
